World Earth Day – 2018

NED University Seminar on World Earth Day – 2018
The Department of Environmental Engineering,  NED University of Engineering and Technology,  Karachi, organized a seminar under the title “World Earth Day – 2018”on Thursday 26th April, 2018 with an aim to put its share to reduce the plastic pollution through knowledge transfer and awareness sessions.  The main focus of the seminar was to highlight the causes, effects and remedial measures to reduce pollution.  The seminar featured presentations by academics, industrial representatives and environmental experts. The seminar was started with the recitation of few verses from Holy Quran by Syed Aashir Ali Najmi, student of third year Urban Engineering Department NED University. Then welcome note was delivered by Prof. Dr. Asif Ahmed Shaikh (Chairman, Department of Environmental Engineering, NED University), followed by the presentations from Dr. Mehmood Ali, Associate Professor, Department of Environmental Engineering, NED University on ‘End Plastic Pollution’ and suggested its reduction through engineered techniques, Mr. Imran Sabir Deputy Director, Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) shared efforts contributed by SEPA on ‘Measures on Prevention of Plastic Pollution’ and lastly the presentation was delivered by Engr. Naimatullah Sohoo, Senior Coastal Engineer, National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) on the topic of ‘Plastic Litter – A source of Marine Pollution’.  The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tufail, NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, was the Chief Guest at the event, who delivered his concluding remarks about the importance of reducing plastic pollution causing adverse impact on the environment. The event was largely attended by the students, faculty members of the university and the stakeholders associated with the reduction of plastic pollution.
